Left to Right: Stella Burnett, Danielle Lamb, Jennifer Ross, LaToya Burke, Bob Speelman

January 3, 2020
NOTE: This was taken from the blog of Foundations Health Solutions leader Bob Speelman. Each week Bob works at one of our Foundations Health facilities in different roles. Whether working in housekeeping or as a nursing assistant, he sees firsthand how we embody the vision of our founder and nursing home developer, Brian Colleran, to be "A Culture of Care."

I spent the day yesterday at Siena Gardens, our 99-bed facility in Cincinnati. Stella Burnett is the administrator there and she has assembled an amazing team of caregivers. One of those caregivers who I spent the majority of my day with was Danielle Lamb, an STNA. Danielle is 35, has two beautiful daughters, and has been an STNA for 15 years. Before becoming an STNA, Danielle was a supply clerk in the Army.

One thing you realize about Danielle right away is her infectious enthusiasm. She is so upbeat and positive that you can't help but feel motivated and encouraged. Danielle's passion is rehabilitation. She loves working with her residents and seeing them get better and go home. Danielle told me her dream was to become a COTA (Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant) or an Occupational Therapist.

I asked Danielle if she has always been so upbeat and positive and she told me no. She said she has been dealing with some things in her personal life and has recently moved out on her own. She didn't know if she had the strength to do it but she did. She also told me about some health issues she has been having. She said that she probably couldn't have made it through these past few months without the help of LaToya, the director of nursing, Jennifer, the assistant director of nursing, and Stella, the administrator. They were there for her every step of the way as a shoulder to cry on and a friend to talk to.

Listening to Danielle and seeing how upbeat and positive she was and then hearing all the things that she had come through made me proud of our Culture of Care. Danielle wasn't just an employee at Siena Gardens, Danielle is part of the family there. That starts with our leadership. Stella, LaToya, and Jennifer get it. Danielle is an important part of their care team, as is every other team member. Actually, part of their care family.

"Companies and employees worry about work-life separation or work-life balance. But why? Wouldn't you rather be a company where your employees easily combine their full self into everything they do? Wouldn't you rather work for a company whose focus on culture allows you to integrate with your life? It shouldn't be a struggle to find a balance between life and work where you are fulfilled and happy."

Bob Speelman, STNA

Each week, Bob Speelman visits a Foundations Health Solutions nursing home. He works alongside a variety of departments to ensure Foundations Health is excelling in the vision of founder Brian Colleran's "Culture of Care." Foundations Health continues to practice the principles nursing home developer Brian Colleran instilled, such as resident and family satisfaction, positive employee culture, and investment in the community.
